Jeel Scholarship Fund

Building a Better Future

The Jeel Scholars
The Jeel Scholarship Fund works on a number of levels……
-
Firstly, it enables the beneficiaries to realise their potential and for their aspirations to become a reality.
-
It enables them to provide for their underprivileged Parents and Siblings in a way they could never have dreamed of.
-
It gives them the opportunity to provide for their spouse and children if and when the time comes.
-
They can offer immeasurable help to their local Communities, and perhaps even further afield…….such education has far reaching effects.
Mohammad
Mohammad longed to be a nurse but knew because of
his financial situation this was out of the question.
When he was told that The JSF would fund his tuition costs to train as a nurse he spoke of a dream come true....
He was our first student, and in his 1st 2 years he came
2nd out of a cohort of forty students! He is a remarkable
young man, highly motivated, hardworking and
determined....
Mohammad has now graduated in anesthesia and resuscitation having got very high marks in
his finals (lowest mark 85%). He is waiting for his certificate and will then have to sit his
professional practice exam. He is still hoping to study on a Masters degree in anesthesia and
resuscitation but says this may have to be in either Egypt or Jordan as there are no
such courses in Palestine.
He had also hoped to begin working in the hospital where he trained but that isn't
possible because of the war. No hospitals are taking on new staff as they do not have the
finances to pay them.
Apparently Israel has frozen the assets of The Palestinian Authority.
He sent this message: ‘All the achievements I have attained were thanks to you and your
encouragement and prayers for me. I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to you in
words. You have given me the opportunity to develop and strive to build a bright future for
myself and my country. So thank you very much.'
Bahaa
Bahaa is a younger brother of Mohammad who shares a
similar background, and he began a four year Nursing
Degree at Bethlehem University in October 2022.
Bahaa wrote: “I wished to study Nursing but in no way can afford to pay for the Tuition Fees as there are so many mouths to feed at home.
When I heard it is possible with your kind support I was dancing for joy…..
I couldn’t believe my dream came true, but then again, God always opens doors.”
Mahmoud
Mahmoud, (seen right with Canon Michael Glanville-Smith,
JSF Committee Chair), has just begun a six-year course in
Medicine at the American Palestinian University in Jenin.
Mahmoud wrote: “I am the big son to my family and so have
to take full responsibility for the family’s affairs.
The most important family matter that I care about is the
effect my parent's divorce has on my brothers and sisters.
The subject of Scholarship is very important to me because it
will be a great start in my life and the life of my family.
“As for studying human medicine, it’s my dream since I was 5 years old, and it’s the dream I
most had for 13 years to achieve!
God willing I will become one of the greatest doctors out there.”
Aseel
Aseel is a girl related to Jeel al Amal as her father is
from the School.
There are four children in the family, but unfortunately
both the mother and father live with a mental
disability!
All four siblings are very smart all excelling in their
grades in the scientific stream......
Indeed her eldest sister received a scholarship to study Astronomy with NASA!
Aseel was accepted to study Computer Sciences at the American University in Jenin.
A very talented young woman, she achieves marks of 90 in all subjects against a class average of 70!
Aseel wrote this letter in February 2025:
Dear Jeel Scholarship Fund Supporters,
My name is Aseel, and I am a second-year Computer Engineering student at Birzeit University. I am honoured to have this opportunity to share a glimpse of my academic journey and daily life with you, as one of the students proudly supported by your generous scholarship.
Pursuing Computer Engineering is both challenging and rewarding. My studies involve demanding courses such as Circuits and Digital Logic, which require extensive focus and dedication. In addition to my core subjects, I’ve taken programming courses at the university, including C and Java. Driven by my passion for programming, I have also taught myself C++, Python, and Algorithms independently. Currently, I am self-studying Data Structures to prepare myself before officially taking the course at the university. My daily routine mostly revolves around university activities—attending lectures, studying, and spending time with friends to recharge.
However, I dedicate most of my weekends to studying, as I use that time to review and catch up on the material covered throughout the week. I am deeply grateful for the Jeel Scholarship Fund and your continuous support. Your generosity has provided me with the opportunity to focus on my academic goals without the added financial burden. I am committed to making the most of this scholarship and ensuring that I meet—and even exceed—your expectations. So far, I have maintained excellent grades, and I strive to continue this academic success throughout my journey.
Thank you again for believing in me and investing in my future. Your support truly makes a difference.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Aseel Hamed
Elana
Najwa approached the JSF about this able, and needy girl asking if it might be possible to
help her through a four year nursing degree course at Al Maqased hospital in Jerusalem.
Her two brothers were boarders at Jeel al Amal and she was at school there.
Her family who were paying her fees are no longer able to do so as they have no income
because of the war. Elena and her mother came to see Najwa last week and both cried when
they heard that The JSF would sponsor her for the remainder of her course.
They live in Bethany and although Elena has a travel permit to go to the hospital in
Jerusalem, but she has to leave home at 5.00 am each morning as the main border is closed
and she has to avoid road closures and diversions imposed by Israel, resulting in her being sent
from one border crossing to another before she can arrive at the hospital by around 8.00 am!
However she is a very determined young lady, and in spite of her daily suffering manages to excel
in her studies.
Elana’s father is a barber but has had no work since the beginning of the war.
She has four brothers, two are working in The United Arab Emirates and one works in
Jerusalem as a German language teacher.
She is extremely grateful that The JSF is paying her tuition fees and enabling her to
complete her degree and qualify as a nurse.
Although we cannot post details of our students individual circumstances on the website
all of them come from backgrounds of significant social and financial need.
